iRing controls music creations on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch

IK Multimedia has announced a motion controller device that helps you make music without touching the screen. And app developers can even use SDK to incorporate support in other software.

The iRing supports the company's music apps, including GrooveMaker and VocaLive. It is most useful for professional DJs and music makers who'd like to manage their music and sound effects without having to touch their iPhone or iPad.

The iRing is so called because it can be wear in middle fingers. There are two different styles and each feature a distinct dot pattern to identify the front and back. The phone or tablet's front-facing camera recognizes the pattern and supported software translate the hand movements into actions on screen. Even distance is calculated.

Up to six different controls in music applications can be recognized by just one or two hand gestures, and because things are kept simple. It will work in a wide range of lighting conditions and doesn't need vast processing power to recognize the motions.
iRing Music Maker users can use the controller to change beats, control rhythmic elements, synth parts and effects. You simply move your hand up and down, left and right, or twist it around to control the action. It's designed to be a fun and simple way to make music.

The iRing will be available soon from ikmultimedia.com at a price of 19.99 euros (most likely £19.99 in the UK).
